BACKGROUND
Mtende Homecraft Foundation is a faith based Organization registered with Malawi Government in 2001 with an aim of assisting and improving the livelihood of vulnerable Children and communities in the field of Health, Education, Food security, Orphan and Vulnerable Children Care and support, and HIV/AIDS especially in rural areas of Malawi where 80% of the population lives.
LOCATION
Mtende Homecraft Foundation Office is located at Mantchewe village next to Mantchewe waterfalls 5km east of Livingstonia Mission Station in Rumphi district. Livingstonia Mission Station is one of Malawi historical places established in 1894 by Dr. Robert Laws - Scottish Missionary in honour of Dr. David Livingstone founder of the Mission. The Mission is located at an altitude of 1200 metres above sea level and is 160 km away from Mzuzu City, 16 km away from Chitimba M1 road and is surrounded by the splendid views of Lake Malawi, Livingstonia Escarpments and Mantchewe waterfalls (see photos below).
The area is comprises of many tribes but the common one is Tumbuka people who are friendly to visitors and their way of living depend on subsistence farming and fishing as source of income especially those along the Lake shore areas. Since Livingstonia Mission Station being a historical place, a number of visitors and tourists pay visits to the site, this has help the indigenous people to easily associate and dominate certain cultures.
